Harley Davidson Sportster – More on this famous Harley model.

The Harley Davidson Sportster is one of the longest running early models of the Harley Davidson family. The first Sportster was produced in 1957 and to this day its production continues to grow. Many more models have been added to the Sportster family which makes it much more fascinating. With each new model added to the Harley Davidson family there is some new innovation that makes it endearing and fascinating for its fans. The introduction of each new technology has only improved the performance of the bike. And as always, quality and durability have not been compromised.

This has been the tradition at the Harley; to never compromise with the quality. The Harley Davidson product code for each Sportster begins with an ‘XL’. The construction of the legendary bike tells us of the great technology, design and style with which it has evolved. The Harley Davidson Sportster has V-twin engines. Powered by the V-twin engines the Sportster has its pistols arranged in a V at 45 degrees and connected by both the connecting rods. The connecting rods are of the “fork and blade” design or of the “knife & fork” design.

The connecting rods are connected to a common pin mounted on a crankshaft. The various models of the Sportster have a different technology in them which distinguishes them. Some of these models have been discussed here. The Sportster, the 45″ R, D, G and W Models had the presence of the side-valve motors, and the ‘Big Twin’ motors with a side valve. These were the flathead, 1213cc and Models V, VL, etc.
These were some of the early models from which the Sportster has evolved. The Harley Davidson Sportster itself has a much advanced technology and is powered by an improved engine. The Sportster has retained the crank case design of its predecessor models in which the transmission is in the same casting as the engine. The engine of the early and recent Sportster model remains the same. The engine of the 1957 Sportster has been directly mounted on the 2003 model.

The laurels that the Sportster has brought to the brand name of the Harley Davidson motor company are innumerous.  It was the first bike that was produced at Harley Davidson for the common public use which had the technology of the hydraulic shock absorbers which were present on both wheels. Such technology applied to the bikes since the earliest time sets Harley Davidson apart from other bike brands. It has always maintained its standard no matter what. This allows Harley Davidson motorcycles to deliver the best and the most excellent performance. The latest or the more recent models of Harley Davison Sportster include the XL evolution which is more commonly known as the ‘evo’. It is powered by 883cc, 1100cc and 1200cc engines. The engine is called an evolution overhead engine which has alloy heads. The production of this bike started in 1986 and still continues being rooted to its tradition of excellence.
