The Harley Davidson motor company was founded in 1903 by William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson. The two young men of their time were always interested in creating a motorcycle which in their time literally meant a cycle fit with a motor. It took many experiments to come up with the first model that was manufactured. The prototype machine was first ridden in 1904 and is the first ever recorded bike in the history of Harley Davidson. Then slowly and gradually the Harley Company picked up the pace when they started manufacturing on a large scale and with improved designs.

The Harley Company has been experimenting with designs and technology ever since. It has been over a hundred years since the first Harley touched the roads and over the centuries it has provided the world with its great and powerful innovations. The Harley Company has stood the test of time. When the great depression engulfed the American economy in the thirties then Harley Davidson motor company was one of the very few companies that survived the depression and came out of it successfully. Also, during the First World War when the military needed a strong and powerful means of commutation, the Harley Company met this demand. They provided the military with a fast and efficient means of commutation.

Similarly during the Second World War, the Harley Company again assisted the military by providing them with heavy built and strong motorcycles. The Harley Davidson motor company had to face a lot of criticism from the media. In the seventies the Harley Company was targeted by the media on the grounds of quality control. At that time the reputation of the company was being tarnished by the media and also the company was facing a cut throat competition from a Japanese company. Even during this rough time the company did not forget its roots. It came out of this rough patch with flying colors. They disproved the charges imposed upon them by the media and also re-established themselves as the number one motorcycle company.

All the motor cycles manufactured at the Harley Davidson motor company are called Harleys. They represent a brand that has stood strong for over a century and will continue to do so. The Harley is a true legend and its iconic image is hard to erase from the minds of its fans. There is no comparison of the performance that Harley provides.

Over the years the Harley Davidson motor company has been experimenting with designs. Its technicians and engineers are the very best and they deliver the best. All the innovations that have come out of the company have proven their worth. Harley has always concentrated on manufacturing heavy built bikes that can take on the highway. Even though the company tried to take over the light weight bikes as well, the effort was not successful and they abandoned the project.
